About

Real teachers don't wait to be asked.

Every AI tutor today is reactive: it waits for the student to ask a question. A good teacher walks in with a plan, knows what you got wrong last week, and decides when to explain and when to make you explain.

Why this is not another chatbot with a syllabus

A student who does not know what they do not know cannot ask the right question. That is not a gap in their curiosity; it is what being at the start of a subject feels like. So a tutor that only answers questions helps the students who least need help.

We built the other thing. Before a student speaks, there is a plan: what is due for review, what they got wrong last time, and how long until their exam. During the session the app owns the turns - it decides when to teach, when to draw, and when to stop talking and make the student explain. Afterwards, what they said is graded against a rubric a human wrote, and the result moves a model of that student that persists for as long as they use it.

The test we hold ourselves to is simple: if the model vendor disappeared tomorrow, what would we still own? It has to be more than API calls.

What compounds

What we own

The curriculum

Concept graphs mapped to published standards, with a rubric and a set of known wrong ideas authored per idea and reviewed by a person. Slow to build, and the reason mastery can mean something.

The learner model

What each student has mastered, what they misunderstood and in whose words, and which way of teaching demonstrably works for them.

The pedagogy, as code

The planners, the grading policy and the turn-taking rules are ordinary tested code, not prompt text. A rule in a prompt is a request a model can talk around.

The efficacy data

Pre and post measurement per unit and delayed re-checks, so claims about whether this works can be answered with numbers rather than testimonials.

What we have not proved

Where we actually are

The teaching loop runs end to end: students are placed, taught in beats against a whiteboard, graded on explaining it back, and reviewed on a schedule. AP Biology is the course that is properly authored. What we have not proved is the thing that matters most - that this works for students who are not us. That needs pilot students and measured outcomes, not more code, and it is exactly what the beta is for.
